WOODLAWN PARK NEWS
July 2016

Is the 4th of July still a celebration of the birth of our nation? Or has it  become just another day off work and a time for hot dogs, apple pie, parades and fireworks?

As we gather to celebrate 4th each in our own way, let us take a moment to remember all the people that made this holiday possible. The people willing to step up and serve in the development of this  240 year old grand experiment we call the United States of America . Had those people not been willing to get involved and serve we would not be celebrating today.

What will our legacy be? A community is only as strong as its citizen involvement. So I encourage you to find a way to get involved. Be it helping a neighbor in need, serving on a committee or running for office, we ALL have a way we can serve.

     To borrow a phrase from Muhammad Ali;

"Service is the rent we pay for our room on earth"

Have a Happy and Safe 4th!

Mayor Lewis

"Scoop the Poop"

We all know to "scoop the poop" when walking our pets, but let's not forget to scoop in our own yards as well. In the summer heat it becomes a breeding ground for flies.
Your neighbors will appreciate it!

The Cities Tree Canopy

As I'm sure you have noticed our trees like many trees through out Metro are dying at an alarming pace. Not only are we losing our much needed tree canopy these dead and dying trees are creating a safety hazard.

During the last storm a tree limb took out a power line on Ahland Road. There have been reports of dead trees falling on neighbors garages in the city. And there recently was a report out of Indiana where a tree fell on a cabin killing the young person sleeping inside.

For everyones health and safety let's keep our trees maintained and replaced when applicable.

Please check that the local government tax is going to Woodlawn Park on your insurance bills.......

Ordinance Number 3, Series 1990-1991 imposes a License Fee upon Insurance Companies for the privilege of engaging in the business of insurance within the corporate limits of the City of Woodlawn Park.  This includes homeowners, car insurance and first year premiums of life insurance.   This ordinance has been difficult to enforce because of the city dynamics and the number of insurance companies issuing policies. The problem has arisen where many residents are not making their insurance company aware of the proper direction of the tax fee.

Print this out and attach to your next insurance bill payment, or call your insurance agent directly to advise of your correct local government.

Please properly direct the Local Government Tax for this customer to the City of Woodlawn Park, KY.  Zip Code is 40207.

FOR QUESTIONS

Contact the city treasurer by mail via C. Veeneman CPA, 2527 Nelson Miller Parkway / Louisville, KY 40223-3161Contact the city treasurer by phone at 502-244-5043.

Please help us solve this situation and help your city collect thousands of dollars that are being routed to St. Matthews or other municipalities in error.  Your insurance rates WILL NOT change.  This tax fee is already being paid as part of your bill.  It is merely a matter of misdirection of these funds.  You can simply call your insurance company or detach the cut-out below and attach to your next payment.
