Dear Residents,

Its hard to believe that summer is ending. School is now back in session- a reminder to all of us to watch our speed. There have been numerous reports of speeders in the city. Beechwood Road, Westport Terrace and Green Meadow Circle have received the most complaints.

It won't be long and leaf raking season will be upon us. Leaves do fall under the property maintenance ordinance. So make sure you make plans to have your leaves removed from your yard.

Lastly, if you get a chance stop in the City Council meeting (3rd Monday of the month) sometime and just listen to what is going on! Also, I have always thought the meetings would be good for our high school youth to attend so they can see more about city government operates.

Don't forget, you can always check out the City monthly financial reports online by visiting or clicking here!

As always remember to be a good neighbor!

Mayor Brown

Attention Green Meadow Circle and Stivers Residents
Image
We are asking all Green Meadow Circle and Stivers Road residents that live on the Railroad track side and have illegally placed trash over your fences to pick up any and all of the trash or debris that has been illegally dumped by the resident. Of course, if you did not place trash in this area than you do not have to pick it up. Mayor Brown and Councilperson Langford recently walked the entire city and this was an area that needs to be addressed. Residents are NOT allowed to place trash or debris over your fences onto the CSX easement- this includes leaves or grass! Let's work together to keep en eye on this area. MSD has been notified to clean out one of the culverts along the tracks of dirt and silt.
Sign Ordinance was approved by City Council

Please be aware that the new Sign Ordinance is now into effect! The City Council passed this updated sign ordinance because they did not want our city to become a business billboard. In summary, for example, if you are having a roof put on your home, the company can place a sign in your yard only while the work is being completed. Once the work is finished, the sign must come out of the yard. In other words, no sign can be in the yard unless the service work is going on..... exceptions of course are real estate for sale signs however, they are no longer allowed to be placed on the intersections of Westport Road and our city. Please read the approved ordinance that was mailed to all residents or ask the Chief of Police if you have any questions.

Welcome to the City Packets
Welcome to the City Packets were distributed by our Block watch Captains to all residents. We felt like it was a good idea for all of us to have a copy of the latest information regarding City Ordinances, including but not limited to: the Do NOT Knock List, the Email Distribution List Sign Up form, the new Sign Ordinance, Solicitor Information and then the directory of course. I would like to thank our City Clerk, Chana Elswick for preparing and compiling these directories.
BLOCK WATCH Searches for Co-Captains!
Image
George Langford, Councilperson has the Block Watch program moving again!  The Block watch is searching for co-captains for the streets in our city. We can never have too many people involved int his simple but important program. Contact George at 897-1915. It only takes one hour per quarter or 4 hours per year to be a captain. Come and be part of the solution to a better city!
As a COURTESY....

  • As a courtesy to other residents, please do not roll out your trash containers until after 6pm on Sunday's and please bring your empty containers in by Monday evening. This will help keep our city looking good and prevent containers being hit by vehicles.
  • Please do not block the streets or your mailbox with your trash containers.
  • Trash containers should be placed at the corner of your yard and driveway.
"Mayor's Report" excerpt from
July 2013 Minutes

  • Mayor Brown stated he received a lot of calls from the storm the prior week. Residents wanted the City to pick up their individual branches. He talked about the storm cleanup. He stated residents should use ID for yard waste pickup. He stated residents might need a letter sent with the guidelines.
  • Mayor Brown stated that 3 of the 4 arborvitae on Beechwood could be saved and 1 could not, per Bob Ray. 12-14 foot trees are $550.00 per tree or $2,200.00 for all 4 trees. Mike is concerned for the safety of walkers near the tree area. Greg stated he would like LG&E to trim trees in the City. Mike will contact LG&E about tree trimming. A resident has filed a complaint on LG&E for not maintaining trees. Chana asked when residents will be cited for not removing storm damage. Mike stated Chief Heaton can warn/cite for dead or dying trees.
Becky made a motion to replace 4 trees not to exceed $3000.00 in total. Doug seconded the motion. All voted aye and the motion was passed.
