Memorial Day is Here!
Memorial Day honors those who died while serving in the U.S. military. The holiday, originally called Decoration Day, was established after the Civil War to honor fallen Union soldiers. It became a federal holiday in 1971
and is celebrated on the last Monday in May.The holiday is marked by visits to cemeteries, parades, and the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 PM local time.
Here are 5 facts about Memorial Day:
1. Civil War Origins:
Memorial Day began as a way to honor the fallen soldiers of the Civil War, originally called Decoration Day.

3. Federal Holiday:
Memorial Day became a federal holiday in 1971.

Memorial Day weekend is often seen as the unofficial start of summer in the United States.
Sign Installation almost complete
There was a small glitch that we noticed to the front entry signs as they were being installed. The posts are in the ground but the signs had to have a small change made to them that was the fault of the installer. The neighborhood watch signs are all up and the no parking signs will soon be completed. There will be one more small green Woodlawn Park banner hung in the 700 block of
Stivers Road. Hoping we get all this finished up in the next few weeks.
Kinloch and Walser Roads
will receive speed deterrent mechanisms to their streets
The new fiscal budget will include monies allocated for:
Two temporary speed humps placed on Kinloch Road. This may lead to a permanent speed hump being installed on Kinloch at a later time depending on if speeding continues.
There will be two new stop signs placed at Walser and Alicent. They will be placed on Walser (one heading north and one heading south).
This intersection will become a 4- way stop. The additional stop signs that were placed on Beechwood Road have reduced the speed considerably since those have been installed, so we are hopeful the same will happen on Walser.
Let's all slow down together!
Couple notes about street parking:
Parking cars on the lawn or having wheels in the lawn is prohibited in Woodlawn Park.
Parking on the street is allowed if your driveway is full from a party at your home or if you are having service work done to your home.
