Winter Storm & Sanitation Update for Woodlawn Park

Published: Tue, 01/07/25

Greetings Woodlawn Park Residents,

*** Why does the City of Woodlawn Park contract to plow our streets over a 2” snow? ***

First and foremost, our number 1 priority is so that emergency vehicles can access our residents or our city if necessary.

Our 2nd priority is for the postal service, Tarc 3, and school busses to be able to access our city and residents.

And our 3rd priority is for our residents.

Each snowstorm is different and this last one definitely had all the components in it, over 10" of snow, sleet, ice, then more snow on top of the ice.

As a small city, our number one goal is to make sure we are all safe and if an emergency would occur, then emergency first responders could respond safely. I have heard from some of you that the plowing of the streets was great, however, the snow went up on your driveways causing some havoc especially if you had to get out. With this much snow unfortunately, this takes place in the plowing process in every neighborhood, every city and even along Westport Road. Again, we are trying to clear the streets for a possible emergency. I rode our city streets with our plowing vendor this morning and for the time being all plowing has halted. He did put another layer of Magic Salt on our streets and it will do its "magic" as time goes on.

There are still slick spots, so use extra caution if you do venture out either by foot or vehicle!

The below freezing temperatures are going to continue for quite sometime. Be sure to check on your neighbors especially the elderly. If you know someone in need, please don't hesitate to reach out to our city phone number and leave a message at (502) 895-6620 Ext. 101

Our sanitation vendor, Eco-tech has cancelled our pick up for this week. Please return your can off the street until Sunday afternoon (1/12) in case we need to plow again for an additional snow system coming in on Friday. Plowing is difficult maneuvering around trash cans. Eco-tech said if you have an overflow simply place the overflow into bags and set next to your trash cans. They will pick our trash and recycling up on Monday, January 13th.

Lastly, if you have not yet signed up for Reach Alert- our texting system we use to get messages out quickly, please visit our website to do so.

Thank you,

City of Woodlawn Park
